Spine Treatment

Disc Replacement

What is it?

One of the latest advancements in spine surgery, involves replacing the disc to remove the pain while preserving natural motion.

Who is it for?

Recommended only to patients after extensive conservative therapies have failed to significantly provide relief of their symptoms. For patients who have painful disc degeneration or disruption.

Who is it for?

Patients who suffer from stenosis, spondylosis or other conditions causing nerve compression may be candidates for decompression.

Are there different types of decompression?

If the compression is because of narrowed spinal canal that is placing pressure on spinal cord or nerve roots, the decompression is considered a laminectomy. If the compression is due to a disc herniation, the decompression is considered an adiscectomy.

Who is it for?

Patients who have failed conservative treatment and have disabling back and/or leg symptoms. Diagnoses that may require fusion include spondylolisthesis, degenerative disc disease, or recurrent disc herniation despite other interventions.

What is its purpose?

To create solid bone between two or more vertebrae, stopping the movement between the bones and reducing pain from motion and nerve root inflammation.

Facet Joint Injections

What is it?

Commonly, facet joint injections are used to determine what may be causing back pain; if the injection eliminates pain temporarily, and then it is very likely that that particular joint is causing the pain.

When is it used?

When the main problem is arthritis of the facet joints in multiple areas of the spine. They are also used when conservative measures of physical therapy, chiropractic care, activity modification, and anti-inflammatory medication has failed.

SI Joint Injection

What is it?

An injection into the SI joint using cortisone is helpful for calming pain and inflammation. The injection usually gives temporary relief for several weeks or months. It is performed with fluoroscopic guidance.

When is it used?

For patients who suffer pain that arises from degenerative changes within the SI joint. It is used after conservative treatment has not been successful.

Epidural Steroid Injections

What is it?

The injection is a combination of cortisone (a powerful anti-inflammatory steroid) and local anesthetic that are given through the back into the epidural space. They help reduce swelling from a bulging or herniated disc.

When is it used?

When conservative measures such as physical therapy, anti-inflammatory or oral steroid medication, do not improve symptoms.

What is it used for?

Typically used to treat pain radiating from the lower pack into the legs or from the neck into the arms. Diagnoses include herniated disc, stenosis, nerve root compression, and in some cases spondylolisthesis.
